Ice Dam Removal
There is really only one safe way to remove ice dams: STEAM! Our steamers will melt the ice on your roof without harming your roof system. Other techniques have the potential to cause serious damage. Pressure washers will usually blast the granules off the asphalt mat of the shingles on your roof. Tools like axes, picks, hammers, and chainsaws will only cause more damage to your roof. Certain salts, if applied to your roof, are corrosive and can damage gutters, grass, and plants.
Heavy snow loads can be stress the structure of your roof’s decking. This snow might not only exceed the weight capacity for your roof, but it can eventually turn into ice dams. Therefore, the best way to prevent ice dams is to remove the snow as soon as it lands.
While removing the snow from your roof can help slow ice dam growth, it may not prevent it. Therefore, continued snow removal maintenance should be done as a preventative measure.
First American Roofing has a couple of options, depending on what is best suited for your roof. Our team is happy to discuss what option may be best suited for your roof and work with you to accommodate your needs.
